If like me there is no love lost between you and plastic, you will love making these Bees Wax food wraps. They are eco friendly, reusable and a long lasting investment. They are perfect for wrapping foods, covering bowls of leftovers, and they look pretty good too.
I have decided to make these wraps not only for our family use, but also for the guests to use in our gite. On holiday often we buy produce for convience. We want to make it easier for our guests to save foods and store foods without the use of plastics. Like all our handmade produce we will offer these to our guests to purchase to take away and use at home. One small change at a time is our moto.
How do they work? Just wrap your produce, the warmth of your hands will mold the wrap into the desired shape. They can be washed with cool water and mild soap, left to dry and stored away for next time. I have found they can last a long time, upto a year. You just need to re-wax them in order to keep using them.
To make these wraps you will need: Bees wax, powdered pine rosin, Jojoba Oil, 100% cotton fabric. I used 2 tsp of bees wax & pine rosin, 1/2 tsp of jojoba oil per 25x25cm square piece of fabric. Firstly melt the ingrediants together, and then simply apply to the fabric with a paintbrush. Hold the fabric up in the air and let dry for a minute. You will find at first the wraps are quiet sticky, this wears off after a day or so once aired.
